The Seven Steps to Successful Home Planning

After reviewing literature, call us to arrange for a personalized tour of a Kuhns Bros. log home and make plans to attend the next Log Home Planning Seminar in Louisa, VA.
- During Open House/Seminar visit, we will help you determine how much home you can afford to build. We’ll also discuss design options, land considerations, construction services and financing services. Begin to identify your wants and needs that will dictate your floor plan design. Use the Deluxe Planning Kit for endless floor plan design options. We can now submit a request for a free price estimate from Kuhns Bros. on your home plans.
- Develop budget & research financing options. As general contractors, we can help in identifying all costs associated with building a log home. Once you have your price estimate for your log home plans, we can help you establish a complete project budget and put you in contact with lending institutions specializing in log homes to begin researching available financing options. Get pre-qualified with the lending institution of your choice.
- Secure building site. It is important to secure the land before making a log home commitment. Once you have your land secured, you are ready to proceed with analyzing the total constructions costs of your new home. You will need to obtain a set of preliminary plans from Kuhns Bros. to get accurate bids, quotations and complete project costs.
- Place a deposit to secure preliminary home plans. Your initial floor plans will arrive within 10-20 business days. Review plans carefully with your builder and sales rep when you receive them. Identify any modifications that need to be made. Sign off on any design modifications and place a deposit for official construction blueprints.
- Apply for and secure building permit. Once you have received your construction plans, you will need to file the appropriate paperwork with the building dept. Contract with a general contractor or builder to build your home. Your bank will require a signed construction contract and building permit prior to closing on your loan.
- Once you have your building permit, your GC can start the site work. You will also be selecting a delivery date for your log package, allow up to eight weeks from receipt of your 20% deposit for your log home delivery. Schedule your loan closing approximately 2 weeks prior to delivery. Final payment of log home package is due upon delivery.
