Here is a sampling of what satisfied Central Virginia Log Home Construction customers had to say about their log home experience:
Dear Lee & Victoria,
We are a little disappointed that all the building activity is over but are most pleased with our new home. It was an interesting and very pleasant process. One of our retired neighbors from the DC area said it best – “This is the first house I have been in where I would not want to change a single thing”. The farm has been in the Fulcher family for almost 200 years, and previous generations have talked about a house at this site. We were finally able to make the family dream come true.
I am not sure when the log home idea started, but we had gone to a number of log home shows at the Dulles Expo Center. Our decision was expedited when some of the county committees started talking about ridgeline building restrictions. We were concerned that our site might be considered a ridgeline. Once we verified that we could get water from a well, we were on our way. After the log home show when Jackie called to invite us to your open house and tour of completed and partially completed homes, we were very comfortable going with you. That is – after a review of the Better Business Bureau report and visiting several other log home builders. We especially like that you were both representatives as well as builders. Your work as a team was excellent with impressive communication. The house was expensive, but I don’t think there were any unexpected surprises from your original cost estimates.
Since we had built a home in a retirement community 8 years ago, we were very familiar with what we wanted. You were able to adapt our plans to our wishes. (A hint to the elderly – try to get all of your main living activities on one floor.) You may remember we were able to make our decisions quickly as to what we wanted in the house.
From the beginning, I think the process went well – starting with site selection and layout, working with J.D. Pippin (who had some questions about “those Superior Walls” but eventually liked them), and setting of the foundation. The arrival of the trucks with the logs was impressive as they arrived on time and manipulated into some tight spots to get unloaded. Our neighborhood doesn’t usually see so much activity.
We were most impressed with Guy and Connie LaPlante as your team put up the logs. My favorite activity is still looking at the beams of the great room ceiling. Their early morning arrival, late evening and weekend work ethic was dear to my heart as I am basically against the restrictions of a 40-hour work week. Both as a doctor and on the farm, things didn’t always happen at those convenient work hours. Ken Roy was always our favorite as he was there from the beginning and almost to the end. I am still looking to see if there are any places where he missed putting trim and, so far, have not found any. We were pleased with Carl Barker’s work on every project he was involved in, including coming back on a timely basis to complete the second stain. Although we shared some frustration in getting Buddy Amick there on a timely basis, I always thought it was a good sign that he was very busy, and he got multiple projects completed according to plan, which was the most important thing now that we are finished. I apologize for not remembering all the names, but all the teams were very helpful, courteous, and seemed very competent in their area of expertise. It was a pleasure watching them work on my frequent trips to the site.
For completeness, any problems? I did not like the posts holding up the porch but have adapted to them OK. JoAnn likes them, so that helps. Some day, when the economy improves, we may want to put columns of our many rocks around them. The gutters were a problem at first, but the people from Sentry have put in new gutter guards and a downspout. The gutters have been challenged with the recent rains and seem to be doing a good job.
I realize we are a good distance from Louisa, but we would be happy to show our home if anyone wants to come this way. It is better to do it when JoAnn is here, as we have not gotten her out of Gainesville yet. She was finally able to get her curtains up even though the man pouring the concrete for the foundation could not give her a date when the house would be ready for them.
Our many thanks! It was great working with you.
Tom and JoAnn
Dear Lee and Victoria,
Just wanted to say thank you for my beautiful log home! I am remiss in taking so long to write this, but it has been a very busy time getting settled!
My experience was certainly a positive one, although sometimes interspersed with stress over deadlines, etc.! The best part of working with both of you was that you stayed so calm and reassuring at all times. No matter what I asked of you, you replied with an affirmative answer & assured me that whatever I requested could be accomplished – and it was.
I was so grateful that you could be my “eyes & ears” throughout the building process and ensure that my home was built as if it were your own. I have had many neighbors and friends “tour” the house & all have been amazed at the fine workmanship throughout. It speaks volumes for your knowledge and expertise of Kuhns Bros. Log Homes and the entire building process. In addition, your quick response to check/fix any items after completion is so appreciated!
I look forward to many happy years ahead in my cozy little log home, a dream come true for me. As my little granddaughter likes to say, “Our Grammy lives in a house made out of the woods!” That’s exactly the way I feel every day!
I am happy to be included as a satisfied customer and reference for you any time!
Best of luck in all your future building projects!
Sincerely,
Patsy Landy
Dear Lee and Victoria:
It has been a year since moving into our beautiful vacation home at the lake and we feel so lucky to be able to “get away” to our Kuhns Bros. log home almost every weekend. We have really enjoyed our first summer at the lake and are very proud of our home.
As you may remember, when we first met you at one of your open houses, we were “sold” on another log home company. We contacted you and then came to your open house to reassure ourselves that we were making the right decision. The time and effort you took in helping us compare products and packages, and your commitment to good customer service were the deciding factors in us becoming a Kuhns Bros. customer.
Your product knowledge, caring attitude, willingness to assist, availability and construction knowledge were of the highest caliber we could expect. Looking back, we certainly made a good decision in selecting Kuhns Bros. Log Homes as our manufacturer and you as their representatives. Your dedicated service throughout all phases of our building process, from planning and design through construction, made building our vacation home an extremely pleasant experience, enough for us to consider becoming a repeat customer!
Sincerely,
Chris & Karen

Dear Lee and Victoria,
Nancy and I would like to thank you for your superior service and knowledge related to the design and construction of our Kuhns Bros. log home. From our very first meeting, Nancy and I felt very comfortable with the way you handled yourselves. Selecting from over 400 different types of log home dealers is a daunting task. Most of the products are very
good, so for us, it came down to the people with whom we would be dealing with. We felt comfortable with your honesty and low pressure style.
We would be pleased to serve as a reference for any of your prospects and clients. If you would like to show our home, please feel free to contact us. Thank you for a job well done.
Sincerely,
Rory & Nancy

To Whom It May Concern:
Lee and Victoria Hayes were representatives for Kuhns Bros. Log Homes and supported us through the planning, financing and building stages of our home. As Kuhns Bros. Log Home representatives they were both very involved and knowledgeable in all aspects of planning and building a log structure. Victoria frequently visited the building site to provide insight and guidance to our builder and general contractor in proper construction techniques and to answer any questions regarding the construction plans.
As with all pre-packaged home kits there were minor items missing and/or damaged. Victoria helped immensely in resolving these issues with the factory and always to our benefit. When there were engineering questions from the general contractor, the Hayes’ also coordinated directly with the engineering staff back at Kuhns Bros. to quickly resolve the issues which minimized the time that our construction crew was idle while waiting for resolution.
Although we had many challenges during the construction of our home, their expertise and commitment to us made the experience much more enjoyable. They helped every step of the way and could be relied upon to delivery completely what they promised. We log our new log home and spend every free weekend enjoying time at the lake.
We would highly recommend them to any of our family or friends who would be interested in any construction project.
Sincerely,
Chris & Dede

Dear Lee and Victoria,
As we reach the final stage in completing our home, Dick and I would like to take the opportunity to Thank You both for all that you have done to make this dream come true.
As you know, when we came to you a little over three years ago, we had already been through the long process of narrowing down our selection to a couple of log home companies. Your (Kuhn’s) was not our original choice. But after several weeks of trying to discuss house plans and make modifications to come up with our dream home, we knew we were headed for a nightmare. We did not have good communication with the log home representative, phone calls were not returned, pricing was vague, design changes were not available, and there was no plan! Many things indicated to us that we were not going to get the support that we would need knowing that we were going to do much of the work ourselves.
We had visited your home previously and had decided that Kuhns was going to be more expensive than what we wanted to spend. But you had left an impression on us, so we came back. And oh how glad we are that we did!!! You made very step easy, you took the time to sit and talk, to answer our questions, to show us the advantages of the no shop package, you gave us an estimate for our budget and we had a plan!! But there was never any pressure to make a decision and as we look back, you invested a lot of time and energy in us and we could have just walked away, but we want you to know that it was that up front time that made us want not only to have a Kuhns home, but to work with you as our representatives.
It was your willingness to go above and beyond that will always stick with us, from the planning through the building you have always made yourselves available from helping to unload the logs on delivery day to giving us recommendations on sub contractors or just stopping by to say “hi” to make sure we were on track. Your support has been constant throughout the process and we will always be grateful.
We wish for you all the best for the future!
Best Regards,
Jackie & Dick

Dear Lee and Victoria,
It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of reference about the service and support you provided to Bruce and me for almost two years as we made our dream of living in a log home a reality.
The beauty and quality of the logs and log siding is unmatched, in our opinion, and the quality of the construction materials such as the sub flooring, insulation, windows and doors in the Kuhns “No-Shop” package were exceptional, which we believed minimized the typical challenges associated with building a home.
We are grateful to you for your guidance and for your timely responses to questions and/or concerns we had along the way. We simply couldn’t have done it without you!
Best Wishes for continued success,
Whitney & Bruce
